The humongous Koyna Dam, with its reservoir, spread across 890sqkm and a capacity of 100 TMC, was filled up by a half or more than 50 TMC in only nine days this year. A staggering 3.78 lakh people have been shifted to 432 temporary relief camps set up by the Maharashtra government in flood-hit areas like Sangli, Kolhapur, and Satara districts. We have been witnessing daily visuals and coverage by news channel where our Army officers and government officials are working tirelessly to help victims reach a safe zone after being rescued.
After thanking Genelia and Riteish, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken to social media, where he thanked Amitabh Bachchan for the donation. In his tweet, he writes, “Thank you Amitabh Bachchan ji for your gesture of coming forward & contributing ₹51,00,000 towards #CMReliefFund #MaharashtraFloods This will inspire many to help & contribute in our rehabilitation efforts for flood affected dists like Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara. @SrBachchan”
