Salman Khan’s Chulbul Pandey from the Dabangg franchise is an iconic character that will always be synonymous with the actor. Having played that part thrice already, it’s unimaginable to even see someone else portraying that role. But as iconic as Chulbul Pandey is, there are some unforgettable things that make Chulbul Pandey who he is. His crazy dancing style, his goggles with the red hearts from the first film, the way he keeps his glasses at the back of his shirt and so much more. In an exclusive conversation with Spotboye.com, director Vinay Sapru, who has directed Salman in various songs and a film, including Dabangg’s Mast Mast Do Nain, along with his directing partner Radhika Rao, reveals how those goggles with the red hearts, used in the song, actually came into existence.
“I remember shooting with Salman for Mast Mast Do Nain from Dabangg. That song had a very classic, old melody but we visualised it with Salman wearing goggles with red hearts. Everybody on the set was a bit apprehensive as he was this Inspector Chulbul Pandey, such a strong character, so how could he wear something like this. But Salman didn’t question us at all and said okay. He did it and it suited him so much that it became a part of the poster as well,” Vinay shares, adding that Salman is always the perfect choice for any of their projects. “He spoils you for choices as whatever he does becomes iconic.”
Radhika-Vinay and Salman had first worked together in the director duo’s debut film, Lucky: No Time For Love. After that, the actor-director combination worked on various songs in Salman’s films, including Jai Ho, Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Dabangg 3.
