As per reports in ANI, Jaaved Jaaferi- Naved Jafri’s father and legendary actor and comedian Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, better known as his stage name Jagdeep, has passed away in Mumbai today. He was 81 years old. He had started his film career in 1951 as a child artist in B. R. Chopra’s film Afsana, and in his career span, has been a part of over 400 films. Some of his most popular roles include Soorma Bhopali in 1975 film Sholay, and he also played the role of Salman Khan’s father in the 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna.
He had also directed the film with the name Soorma Bhopali, in which his character was the protagonist. He had received a lot of praise for his role in AVM’s Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke, and in fact, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had gifted his personal belongings to Jagdeep for his brilliant performance in the film. He gained prominence as a comedian after the movie Brahmachari.
Filmmaker Milap Zaveri took to his Twitter to mourn the demise of Jagdeep sahib. He wrote, “RIP Jagdeep sir. You will always be remembered as a Legend.”

His grandson Meezaan Jaffrey too made his Bollywood debut last year with Malaal. He is reported to be buried tomorrow at Mazgaon Mustafa Bazaar burial ground in Mumbai.
