The heart-rending story of Geeta Kapoor, the veteran actress whose
resume includes films like Pakeezah, has captured the nation’s attention.
The actress was reportedly found at the SRV Hospital in Goregaon in an
unconscious state. Geeta Kapoor’s son Raja, who is a choreographer, had
abandoned the actress at the hospital. He had told the hospital authorities
that he was heading out to find the nearest ATM and will return with cash.
Geeta Kapoor In Pakeezah
That was in April. No one from Geeta Kapoor’s family has since turned up
to see the aging actress, who was malnourished and frail when she was admitted
to the hospital.
When hospitals officials visited the residence to look for Raja,
neighbours told them the place had been rented out three months ago and the
family had vacated it within hours of sending Geeta Kapoor to hospital.
Ashoke Pandit & Ramesh Taurani
Filmmaker and CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) member Ashoke
Pandit and producer Ramesh Taurani stepped forward to help the veteran actress.
They footed Geeta Kapoor’s hospital bills that amount to Rs 1.5 lakh.
But when the duo told the hospital that they want to move Geeta Kapoor
to an old age home, where she will be cared for properly, their request was
turned down.
The reason: The hospital told them that they will need a No Objection
Certificate from the son before they released her.
To put an end to Geeta Kapoor’s misery, Ashoke Pandit filed an FIR at
the Goregaon police station. The police have now launched a man hunt for Raja.
Once the errant son signs the NoC, Geeta will be able to start a new
life, at a place where she is treated with love and dignity!
When contacted, Pandit told SpotboyE.com: “We pray that Raja is caught
soon. He cannot go too far, he will be apprehended soon. We will see to it that
Geeta ji becomes healthy and gets her dignity back.”
