Kunal Kemmu had recently hit the headlines for his tweet that took an indirect jibe at OTT Platform Disney+ Hotstar. A virtual press conference of sorts was held by the platform to announce its new projects that include Alia Bhatt's Sadak 2, Akshay Kumar's Laxmmi Bomb, Kunal Kemmu's Suitcase, Ajay Devgn's Bhuj, Vidyut Jamwal's film Khuda Hafiz and more. While for virtual announcement event Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Ajay Devgn received an invite, on the other hand, Vidyut and Kunal didn't. They expressed their disappointment on social media and their tweets went viral. Now, in an interview, Kunal has opened up on it.

Kunal's tweet that went viral read, "Izzat aur pyaar maanga nahi kamaya jaata hai. Koi na de toh usse hum chhote nahi hote. Bas maidaan khelne ke liye barabar de do chhalaang hum bhi oonchi laga sakte hai (sic)." On this, in an interview with Bombay Times, Kunal stated that he just expressed his feelings and his motive was not to put anyone down. He was quoted saying, "It was just a reaction to whatever I was feeling. The idea was not to put somebody in a spot or insult someone. Frankly, I have moved on."

Over the ongoing insider-outsider debate, Kunal expressed his opinion and stated that he is more of an insider than anyone can be given his family background. Yet, at times, he feels like an outsider, he confessed. The treatment one receives is based on how their film works in theatres, said Kunal. He is the grandson of a Kashmiri playwright, Moti Lal Kemmu, while his father Ravi Kemmu, was an assistant director. Kunal entered the film industry as a child artiste, however, he had to struggle hard to make a space for himself in the industry.

The Lootcase actor was quoted saying, "I have been working in this industry since I was seven years old, and I don’t think I can be any more of an insider than I am. But, at times, I still feel like a newcomer. The insider-outsider debate stands true for everybody. You are made to feel like an insider and the most loved person, if your films are doing well. However, when your films are not doing well, even a so-called insider might tell you, ‘I suddenly feel like an outsider, as the love and affection is not the same anymore’. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the business we are in. Having said that, the industry is not like a movie where we can say that... ‘Yeh villain hai, isko hata denge toh industry saaf ho jayegi’. It is not a one-man show, but a system. The system needs to be modified, and it is not going to change overnight."
