It's been a long time since the reports of Amar Singh Chamkila's biopic have been making the rounds on the internet. Now, a report has said the film will be helmed by Imtiaz Ali and it will be the first biopic to be made by the director. Amar Singh Chamkila was regarded as one of the best live stage performers that Punjab has ever produced and was extremely popular with the village audience. His songs focused on the real issues in Punjab. Many thought that his songs were obscene. But a large number of the people loved them for their truthful commentary. He and wife Amarjot Kaur were later assassinated and the case was never solved and no arrests were made.
Fans have been wondering who will be roped in to play the protagonist. An ETimes report suggests that while filmmaker Imtiaz Ali was rumoured to have roped in Ayushmann Khurrana, Amar Singh Chamkila's son Jaiman said, "I would prefer Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan to play my parents."
Earlier this month, Imtiaz was seen jetting off to meet Jaiman at his house in Ludhiana. During his recent media interaction, the singer’s son confirmed, "Yes, Imtiaz Ali had come over, he was here for 3-4 hours and he wanted as much information as possible about my Dad and I gave it to him, as much as I remembered; after all, I was just 4 when my father passed away."
He also added how Imitiaz had sought permission from him to make the biopic. He said, "Imtiaz had sent someone from his team sometime ago and I was happy to say yes. There will be a few modifications done though to make a nice film but I am okay with that."
Jaiman further said that he had heard that Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana were being considered to play his father's role. "But Imtiaz Ali had brought sketches of Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan and I liked those. Kartik looked similar to my father in that sketch. But let's see. The cast is certainly not final. It will be announced in due course," he concluded.
Meanwhile, the makers are yet to confirm if Kartik and Sara will be seen leading the biopic. If they succeed to grab this film, this will be their second outing with Imtiaz Ali - the previous being 'Love Aaj Kal' that hit theatres in February 2020. It did not receive good reviews, but SarTik's chemistry was praised a lot.
