Karisma Kapoor Reveals Kareena Kapoor And She Would Travel By Local Trains And School Bus; ‘Our Mother Kept Us Grounded’

Karisma Kapoor opened up recently about her simple upbringing and how her mom Babita raised her and her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan. She also revealed she knew wanted to become an actor at an early age, and how she made it big in Bollywood!

Karisma Kapoor comes from one of the most popular and eminent families in Bollywood- the Kapoors. However, contrary to what most people assume, her life was not all glitz and glamour and she in fact, lived a simple life. Now, the actress has revealed some details that not many people know of, and also about how she was brought up, in a lengthy note posted on Instagram by the popular page Humans Of Bombay. In the note, she also talked about how her mom Babita raised her and her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan.

In the note, Karisma Kapoor shared that she would visit her granddad on set, growing up, and it would leave her mesmerized. She was present on set when Raj Kapoor was directing ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ and she loved the lights, camera and knew that she wanted to become an actor right then. She said, “When I told my granddad, he said, ‘It’s glamourous but it’s not a bed of roses—you will have to work very hard.’ That stayed with me. I wanted to act but my inner voice made me doubt myself.” Talking about her upbringing, Karisma said, “What motivated me was how grounded my mom kept me. Despite being from an ‘illustrious’ family, she made us live a simple life. Karisma Kapoor also talked about how her mother Babita motivated her when she felt like she didn’t want to let anyone down by her acting. She said, “But she (Babita) said that until I try, I’d never know. That’s when I signed my first film—a remake of a South Indian movie! While shooting, I gave my best. I had to ‘make it’ or ‘break it’. And the movie was a success!”


Karisma Kapoor also opened up about how she hit a roadblock when he had done a song ‘Sexy Sexy’ which people thought was way ahead of its time. “But that’s when my mom said that it’s an actors job to entertain. I can’t let one roadblock affect it. Even on the bad days I had to keep my head held high.”


Karisma Kapoor also talked about working with Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and said that no actor wanted to do the part. She did the film and even won a National Award for it.
