Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film ‘Thalaivii’, which is based on the life of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa. Last month, Kangana had refuted rumours of the film releasing direct on OTT platforms, assuring fans that the film will have a theatrical release first. Now, as per the latest report in Bollywood.life.com, Thalaivii has been sold for a whopping Rs 55 crore to two major OTT platforms, Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The report also stated that the movie would simultaneously release on both online streaming platforms. Notably, this will be the first time that a Hindi movie would be released on two OTT platforms. Kangana had earlier mentioned in her Instagram post that despite being offered a record price for the OTT premiere, the film will have a theatrical release first.
While speaking with a leading daily, Kangana had earlier said that films like Thalaivii and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi cannot be released on OTT platforms because they have been made on a bigger scale. “It depends. For example, a film like ‘Thalaivi' just can't release on digital because it is such a massive scale film, neither a movie like ‘Manikarnika' is a digital space film. But yes, films like ‘Panga', ‘Judgementall Hai Kya' also caters to that audience. The way the film is made, it is very digital-friendly. They have recovered huge costs through digital itself. So, it depends,” she was quoted as saying.
