Kangana Ranaut is busy promoting her upcoming film Emergency. Amidst the hectic schedule, the actress-turned-MP has been quite candid, sharing insights and stories about her experiences in Bollywood, including her interactions with other stars and her reasons for turning down certain roles. One of the more surprising revelations came when Kangana discussed why she has consistently refused to work with Akshay Kumar, one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars, despite his repeated offers. In an interview with NBT Entertainment, Kangana disclosed that she had turned down a role in Akshay Kumar’s film Singh Is Bliing, a decision that left the actor puzzled. Akshay, taken aback by her refusal, asked her directly why she was unwilling to work with him, especially since he believed he was offering her good roles. Kangana’s response was both bold and thought-provoking. She revealed that she had told Akshay that, as a father to a daughter, he should understand her fight for the integrity of women. This statement implied that the roles he was offering her did not align with her values or her mission to portray women with respect and dignity on screen. Kangana recalled the conversation, saying, "Akshay Kumar called me for Singh Is Bliing. Then he called me again for a couple of films. Then he asked, ‘Do you have a problem with me, Kangana?’ I said, 'Sir, I really don’t have a problem with you.' He asked, 'Then why? I am giving you such good roles.' I said, 'Please understand, you also have a daughter. We want integrity for women.'"
Kangana’s refusal to work with Akshay Kumar wasn’t an isolated incident. She also turned down a role in Salman Khan’s blockbuster film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a part that was eventually played by Kareena Kapoor Khan. Despite the film’s massive success and the praise that Kareena received for her performance, Kangana did not find the role appealing. She mentioned that when Salman offered her the role, she questioned its substance, asking herself, "Yeh kya role diya hai?" (What is this role?). Later, Salman approached her again for a role in Sultan, but once more, Kangana declined the offer. She shared that Salman was perplexed by her repeated refusals, to the point where he asked her, "What more do I offer to you now?" Despite turning down these significant opportunities, Kangana noted that Salman has remained kind and respectful towards her.
These anecdotes from Kangana highlight her unwavering commitment to her principles and her determination to take on roles that align with her vision of empowering women. Her decisions to reject high-profile films with major stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan reflect her belief in maintaining integrity in the roles she chooses to portray. Even though these decisions might seem surprising to many, they underscore Kangana's dedication to her craft and her desire to bring meaningful and respectful representations of women to the screen. As she continues to promote Emergency, it’s clear that Kangana is not just focused on her film’s success, but also on the broader impact she hopes to make within the industry.
