Kangana Ranaut has received good reviews for her political drama, Thalaivii which saw her play the role of former Tamil Nadu chief minister, the late J Jayalalithaa. But the movie has been trending ever since it premiered on two OTT platforms. As per a report in News 18, Kangana Ranaut and the Thalaivi team sold the film for Rs 55 crore to Netflix and Amazon Prime. So, this is the very first time that a Hindi film is simultaneously released on two OTT platforms.
Kangana is overwhelmed by the love the film has garnered on the OTT space. She told IANS news agency, "I do my own thing and I am in my own place. Most actresses are very popular for starring with popular heroes. That's how actresses have always been. But I have my own light. I don't borrow someone's else's light. So, you know, that is a good place to be in. Definitely, I am much more popular now than I have ever been. It is true that right now is the best time of my career. I won't deny that."
Kangana is happy despite the film being pitted against international content on the OTT platform. "This has been so healing in terms of all the scrutiny that I went through and I go through for my very right-wing opinions and nationalistic approach to things after that kind of appreciation even from people who have a Left or Communist approach or ideologies even they appreciated my work. And that's how I feel that art brings everyone together," she added.
Earlier, after the film’s release, Kangana Ranaut had penned a note of gratitude and revealed that rarely a film is loved 'passionately and unanimously’ by the people and she is glad to know that Thalaivii is one such film.
Thalaivii features varied aspects of Jayalalithaa's life, tracing her journey as an actress at a young age to becoming the face of Tamil cinema, as well as the rise of the revolutionary leader who changed the course of the state's politics.
