Interestingly, Kader Khan, who also wrote dialogues for nearly 250 films, had talked about not being recognised for his contribution to cinema, back in 2016. Talking to IANS, Kader Khan had stated, "If the government feels that I have done good work, it will honour me. It’s people’s love that they are demanding it for me". He had added, "it’s good that I did not get one." Taking a dig at those who have got it in 2016, Kader Khan had said, "... it’s good that they did not give me a Padma Shri. I have neither flattered anyone in my life, nor will I ever. I don’t want these awards if they have been given to people (in the industry) who got it this time."
"An award is a no big thing, but its importance lies in the people it has been conferred upon. Earlier, there was a certain honesty in these awards but it’s not the same case now. People have now forgotten to respect others and have become way too selfish. I would think that I was not as capable as those who were chosen for the Padma awards this year. I, however, thank all those who proposed my name for it", he had added.
Kader Khan passed away at his son's residence in Canada. Fed up of the new ways of the industry and post a knee surgery in Mumbai, the legendary Khan had shifted to be with his elder son Sarfaraz while his wife and younger son Shanwaz stayed in the city. "After the knee surgery in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital about three years ago, he was never the same. He again fell on the same knee and things just went downhill after that. Sarfaraz looked after him very well but Khan saab failed to cooperate and respond to all treatment. Age-related problems multiplied and he was strapped to a wheelchair since 2 years. Recently, he had become bedridden so much so that three people were required to even turn him on one side, he had put on lot of weight. The last few days saw him in coma and virtually out of breath despite oxygen being administered through a bipap ventilator and then a Valve Oxygen," a source close to his family had told us.
