Aamir Khan has sparked off a huge controversy with his remark on the rising intolerance in the country. While some Bollywood celebrities criticised the actor for his statement, director Kabir Khan has come out in his support.
At an event last evening, the director said, "I have said this before also - I think there has been a rise in intolerance in the last few months. Whenever a celebrity speaks up against it, he is attacked vehemently. Doesn't that act itself prove that we have become intolerant?"
The Bajrangi Bhaijaan director also said that it is unfair that Aamir has to face such severe consequences for speaking his mind on the subject. He added, "I totally support what Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan said about intolerance." Kabir also said that Aamir's statements were being misconstrued.
At the Ramnath Goenka excellence In Journalism Awards on Monday, Aamir spoke about how he is "alarmed" at the "growing disquiet" in the country. The Dangal actor also stated how his wife Kiran Rao is so scared about the rising intolerance that she asked him if they should "move out of India".
Activists of Hindu Sena gathered outside his residence in Bandra last evening and staged a protest in retaliation to his remark. The State Reserve Police Force even beefed up the security outside his building.
