Jaya Bachchan Recalls Husband Amitabh Bachchan ‘Going Through A Tough Phase’; Veteran Actress Says, ‘Just Be There And Be Quiet For Them’

Veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan has been making the headlines these days for her bold statements on her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya season 2. Also graced by the latter’s mother, Shweta Bachchan, the three generations often sit together and discuss their point of view about the changing society. In one of the recent episodes, the actress opened up about how a wife should deal with her husband when he is going through a tough time. 

In the recent episode, the women came back together to talk about setbacks and how to get back into the right groove. Recalling how her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, had gone through his fair share of failures, she explained that it is better to stand by men, in silent support. However, her daughter, Shweta quickly disagreed and stated that as per her wives should play a more proactive role when it comes to helping their husbands during a crisis. Quoted by News 18, the 75-year-old actress stated, “We went through different kind of failures in different phases of my life. When a man is going through a tough phase, it’s nice to just be there and be quiet for them. Countering her mother’s view, Shweta added, “No, Mumma! I don’t agree. Sometimes all a man needs is some idea which then they can work on. I would like to play a more proactive role and look for a solution because I’m a problem solver.”

For the unversed, Sr Bachchan went through a very rough time in the '90s, when his company went bankrupt. He had gone on to reveal that he had a debt of Rs 90 crore. Recalling the entire experience and creditors would knock on their doors every day, he shared that it was “very embarrassing, very humiliating.” He went on to succeed in life after late producer Yash Chopra offered him a role in Shah Rukh Khan-Aishwarya Rai starrer Mohabbatein. He went on to host his famous quiz-based Kaun Banega Crorepati, which is to date one of the most well-loved reality shows on Indian television.
