Unlike conventional Bollywood weddings, the duo decided to keep it a low-key affair
Director Kunal Deshmukh, known for helming films like Jannat and Jannat 2 and who more recently directed the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Raja Natwarlal , married his live-in partner Sonali Rattan at a private ceremony yesterday.
The duo had been living in together for over a year at their Bandra pad and according to Kunal, he felt that marriage was the next 'logical step'.
Speaking to SpotboyE.com, an elated Kunal said, "We didn't want to do an elaborate song-and-dance kind of a thing. The guest-list also included our parents, grand-parents and few very close friends."
So didn't he invite even his mentor Mahesh Bhatt? Said Kunal, "No, we didn't. It is ultimately about what makes just you and your partner happy. When you try to do a celebration in an elaborate way, you invariably end up excluding some people which doesn't go down well with them."
A magistrate came to their residence early in the morning and after exchanging rings and vows, the couple was issued a marriage certificate. "It was such a simple yet a beautiful moment."
Kunal and Sonali plan to fly off for a short honeymoon. "I couldn't have asked for a better way to end this year," he concluded.
