Rajkummar Rao's
Newton has been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars, and everyone
is happy. But from what reports suggest is that Bollywood's own export to
Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra, isn't that kicked about it. We wonder why?
Well, it is said
that Priyanka's production venture, Ventilator, was also one of the 25 films
which were under the scanner for a shot at selection for India's Oscar
nomination. But with Newton's selection, Ventilator was thrown out of the race.
It's for sure that if Priyanka's film would have been selected, she would have
created enough buzz for it in the Hollywood circuits, considering the fact that
she is now truly a global icon.
Priyanka Chopra Is All Smiles At An Event
According to Ventilator director Rajesh Mapuskar, the entire team was eagerly
waiting for the verdict on September 22. He recalled Madhu Chopra’s excitement
when she called him up the night before the verdict was announced, “I told her
not to worry, assuring her that only the best film would make it. We were a bit
disappointed when we learnt about the verdict, the next day.” When asked about
what was Priyanka's reaction, Rajesh said, "I guess, Priyanka must be even
more disappointed because she was always ambitious about the film. Had it been
selected, she would have ensured that it was the most-talked-about film in the
run to the Oscars, especially since she is already an established name there.
Ventilator was always the favourite baby of their banner.”
So has he seen
the official entry to the Oscar, Netwon yet? “I have heard good things about it
and am looking forward to seeing it,” concluded Rajesh.
