A news report earlier this week claims sources at Reliance have revealed 15 August as the latest release date for the long-delayed Rohit Shetty-directed Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi.
However Shibasish Sarkar, CEO of Reliance Entertainment debunks the latest release date as yet some more wishful thinking.
Says Sarkar, “In the last 18 months I am supposed to have released Sooryavanshi at least ten times. Rohit Shetty is shooting Khatron Ke Khiladi outside India. Once he’s back in India we will sit down together and discuss the release.”
Any plans to release films in theatres would at this moment appear premature if not foolhardy, as there is no clarity on the government’s stance regarding the re-opening of movie theatres. Even if they were to reopen in July(as sources suggest) getting audiences to return to movie theatres won’t be an easy task.
Given the scenario , filmmakers who are keen to release films in movie theatres have adopted the wait-and watch policy for now.
The will-it-won’t-it see-saw over the film’s release has been going on for the last three months ever since the lockdown
Directed by the redoubtable Rohit Shetty whose Golmaal is the most successful Bollywood franchise of all times, Sooryavanshi , an action-packed cops-and-robbers drama brings together one of Bollywood’s most successful directors with Akshay Kumar for the first time. The two have shot the most dearth-defying jaw-dropping stunt scenes which, according to the film’s director, will go to waste on the home-viewing medium. For the film’s climactic hijinks the director has roped in Ajay Devgan and Ranveer Singh to join Akshay.
