Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan who had been admitted to the ICU of the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai passed away today after his health deteriorated. The actor who was admitted to the Mumbai hospital for a colon infection died today on April 29, 2020, battling against the rare disease at 53. Irrfan Khan was much loved by all and the actor won hearts with his stellar performances in his films over the years. On Tuesday evening, a statement released on behalf of Irrfan Khan by his spokesperson read, “Yes it is true that Irrfan khan is admitted to ICU at Kokilaben in Mumbai because of a colon infection. We would keep everyone updated. He is under doctor’s observation. His strength and courage have helped him battle and fight so far and we are sure with his tremendous willpower and prayers of all his well-wishers, he will recover soon.” The statement was issued soon after the actor was admitted to the ICU at the Kokilaben hospital in Mumbai because of colon infection.

Later, another update was sent out dismissing rumours that the actor was on a ventilator. An excerpt from the statement read, “Irrfan is a strong person and is still fighting the battle. We really request you to not fall for rumours and not partake in these conversations which are fictional.” Today, on his death, here’s a look at how Irrfan Khan made sure he kept his fans and well-wishers in the loop ever since he was diagnosed with the rare disease.


On March 5, 2018, all of Irrfan Khan’s fans woke up to the shocking news of the actor being seriously unwell. Sharing the news with fans through social media, the actor had taken to his Twitter handle. In his tweet, the actor shared how his search for rare stories made him find a rare disease. Khan also mentioned that he has never given up and will always fight for his choices. In his message, the actor requested all to not speculate and mentioned that he himself will share his story with everyone when the investigations with a conclusive diagnosis come. Although Irrfan Khan requested everyone to not speculate, as the nature of his illness wasn’t confirmed, there were rumours. Later, on March 16, 2018, as promised, the actor released another statement on his Twitter explaining about the rare disease he was diagnosed with and mentioned it was termed as the neuroendocrine tumour. As Irrfan Khan was undergoing treatment in London, during the initial treatment, the actor flew back and forth to avail the best medical care, Although many did not hear much about the actor and his health that year, the following year, in February 2019, Irrfan Khan briefly moved back to India and travelled to and fro. After his return to India, the actor took to his Twitter handle to once again share an update with his fans about his health. Read the message below:


Later, as Irrfan Khan’s health showed signs of improvement, the actor began shooting for the first time since his diagnosis, for film Angrezi Medium. With good support from the cast and crew, the actor managed to shoot the film in London and Rajasthan making it his last film. But, this year, in March, during the promotions and release of the film Angrezi Medium, as Irrfan’s health deteriorated, the actor released a recorded message on his Twitter. In the video, the actor spoke about having ‘unwanted guests’ in his body that has kept him busy and mentioned to fans that he will keep them informed.


In the last few days, reports surfaced that Irrfan Khan attended the funeral of his mother, Saeda Begum, via video conferencing after her sad demise on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
