Two months back, Irrfan Khan announced that he had been diagnosed with NeuroEndocrine Tumour and had shifted abroad for advanced treatment. Since then the Khan family and their close friends haven’t made an official statement on the star’s health.
Before going for the treatment, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar had approached Irrfan to be a part of his film on the long-forgotten martyr Udham Singh. Irrfan had excitedly agreed to be a part of the biopic on the life of the freedom fighter. But news of his sudden and unfortunate illness, followed soon.
While talking to Mumbai Mirror, Shoojit revealed that the actor is responding well to the treatment. He said, “I’ve been speaking to both Irrfan and his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), he’s responding well to the treatment and trying to cope with the knowledge that he’s battling NeuroEndocrine tumour by treating the recuperation in Europe like a short and unexpected holiday. I’m planning to visit him next month. We hope to roll by the year-end, but will wait till Irrfan is ready to shoot,” says Shoojit, admitting that Irrfan’s name automatically crops up when he is working on projects because “he’s one of our finest actors and a dear friend”.
Shoojit's statement comes as a big relief to fans and well-wishers of the actor.
Few months back, Vishal Bhardwaj, who was supposed to start shooting for his upcoming film with Irrfan and Deepika decided to wait until he the former recuperates.
Taking to social media, Vishal shared the news and wrote, “Irrfan is a warrior and we know he will conquer this battle. Therefore @deepikapadukone, Prernaa @kriarj and I have decided to reschedule our film and start with renewed energy and celebration when our warrior returns as a winner.”
