Anushka Sharma is once again blamed for her husband Virat Kohli's under-performance. During her courting period, the actress was ridiculed and criticised for her then-boyfriend Virat Kohli's performance on field. During that time, she even issued a long statement on the same saying, 'I am not and will not be a pawn to be used by anyone’s thoughts or beliefs or agendas and next time you want to use my name to discredit someone or the board or even my husband, do it with facts and proof & leave me OUT of it.' Well, once again, the actress is being blamed and this time by commentator Sunil Gavaskar. In the last match of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab, Virat dropped two catches and failed with the bat while only making a run off five balls against the opposite team. Seeing the performance, in the commentary box, Sunil came up with an unsavoury comment involving Kohli’s actor wife Anushka.
According to News18, Gavaskar said, "Inhone lockdown me toh bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai, (he has only faced Anushka's bowling in lockdown)" The remark was in bad taste and did not go down well with the Indian skipper’s fans. Some even demanded the BCCI to remove Gavaskar from the commentary panel. Now, reacting to his snide comments, the Zero actress shared a statement, giving it back to him. She asks him why he thought of giving such sweeping comments on her. She even asked if he should also give equal amount of respect to her as well.
She started her note by saying, "That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us?
"I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or are your words only relevant If you use my name in the process It’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?" She further wrote.
Expressing her views, she concluded her note by saying, "Respected Mr Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this."
