Within a few days, people across the globe will ring in the International Women’s Day, which celebrates womanhood and their numerous contributions to the world. Well, every woman is special in their own ways, and through this piece, we would like to emphasise why Priyanka Chopra is someone to cherish and celebrate forever.

Priyanka Chopra’s memorable Bollywood career

Are her achievements in Bollywood even a secret anymore? Priyanka Chopra is among one of the celebrities that is synonymous with Bollywood and has played a pivotal role in getting it a global reach. It was in the year 2000 that we came across this phenomenon named Priyanka Chopra after she was crowned with the Miss World title. It was from thereon that her journey in B-town commenced. The actress has been a part of more than 60 films, most of which are still remembered for her performances. The list includes Fashion, Mary Kom, Barfi, Aitraaz, What's Your Raashee?, Bajirao Mastani and The Sky Is Pink among others. Priyanka Chopra has also won a streak of accolades, including the prestigious National Award and Padma Shri.

Her other achievements include Most Searched Female Actor on Internet, GQ Woman of the Year, Most Impactful Debut on Television, Green Globe Award for Contribution to a Greener Earth, Indiepop Song of the Year, Woman of Substance, Videocon India Youth Icon Awards, India’s Style Icon, World’s Sexiest Asian Award, Style Diva of the Year, India’s Best Dressed, Ambassador of Beauty and Substance, etc.

The global diva

Other than wooing fans in Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra has also created an identity of her own in the West. She started her global career by starring in a popular series called Quantico, which made her the first South Asian actress to lead an American show and that helped her gain immense popularity across. The actress, in fact, also became the first South Asian actress to win the Best Actress trophy at the People’s Choice Awards for her performance in Quantico.

In 2016, Priyanka Chopra was listed as TIME’s one of the most influential people alongside the likes of Mark Zuckerberg. Priyanka then went onto star in several Hollywood projects like Baywatch and Isn’t It Romantic. At the 88th Oscar awards, Priyanka Chopra was one of the 13 presenters. As for her upcoming, Priyanka Chopra has several Hollywood projects in her kitty. She was last seen alongside hubby Nick Jonas in his single What A Man Gotta Do.

Priyanka Chopra's association with the UNICEF

Priyanka Chopra’s popularity and massive influential reach helped her become the UNICEF National Ambassador in the year 2010. Ever since then, she has been associated with the coveted body and has contributed in several ways. “Priyanka Chopra is an icon for Indian youth, especially girls. For young Indian women, the actress symbolizes power and strength. Ms Chopra is also known for her contribution to social causes, particularly those involving children. She has been associated with several NGOs to raise awareness about ways to improve the condition of the girl child in India. Most importantly, she has also been a part of the UN’s global “Girl Up” campaign, which envisions a world where all girls, no matter where they live, have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders. For these reasons, Ms Chopra is an ideal voice to support UNICEF’s work in India,” reads an excerpt from the dedicated column for Priyanka Chopra on UNICEF’s official website.

Savage when she should be

Well, Miss Chopra has often shown her savage side, albeit in the most dignified ways. One such instance took place in August last year, in the wake of the dastardly Pulwama attacks. During her appearance at the Beautycon LA, the actress was confronted by a Pakistani woman for her ‘Jai Hind tweet’ after the Indian Army’s surgical strike across the border. The woman said questioned PeeCee on her tweet and also accused her of encouraging nuclear war. As a befitting response to the same, Priyanka said, “Whenever you’re done venting … got it, done? Okay, cool. So, I have many, many friends from Pakistan, and I am from India, and war is not something that I am really fond of, but I am patriotic. So, I’m sorry if I hurt sentiments to people who do love me and have loved me, but I think that all of us have a sort of middle ground that we all have to walk, just like you probably do, as well.”

Her response, however, didn’t go down well with a section of people across the border and many requested the UNICEF body to dismiss Chopra as their brand ambassador, but in vain. Here she is, standing strong with a voice of her own and for her country.

On that note, cheers to every woman out there!
