Madhur Bhandarkar’s India Lockdown starring Prateik Babbar, Shweta Basu Prasad, Sai Tamhankar, and Aahana Kumra finally premiered at the 52nd International Film Festival of India. The film was praised for its realistic depiction of lockdown in India. The social drama details the lifestyle and livelihood of people being affected by Covid-19.

The film released on Zee5 on December 2, 2022 and netizens along with critics are singing praises for the film. Many praised the insightful portrayal on the plight of those affected by Covid pandemic and lockdown.

However, it was Shweta Prasad Basu who went on to garner the maximum praises as for her portrayal as sex worker, Mehrunissa. Her character narrated the plight of sex workers during the lockdown phase.

During a recent interaction with India Today, Shweta opened up about her role, how she prepared for it, and much more.

Talking about her role, Shweta Basu Prasad said, "Any role is unconventional. At the end of the day, it's what they do. A character should relate to human emotions. They are all humans in fact - be it my character of a lawyer in Criminal Justice or journalist in The Tashkent Files. Our characters are just representation of human emotions. If you watch a film depicting a sex worker, they are often portrayed as 'bechari'. We often get that feeling. My character will give a comic relief which is quite contradictory to the setting it has and the work she. But it was a consious effort because I wanted people to see her as a human and not let the job she does overpower it."
