Shahid Kapoor is the man of the moment after winning the trophy for Best Lead Performance (Male) for his portrayal of a drug-addled Punjabi pop star in Udta Punjab.
His co-star Alia Bhatt won the Best Lead Performance (Female) for her much lauded turn as a young woman who is kidnapped and assaulted by the drug mafia of Punjab.
With these two wins, Udta Punjab has swept the acting categories at the 18th IIFA Awards which are taking place in New York.

This is Alia’s second trophy of the night. She had earlier taken home the Myntra Style Icon trophy. Alia was nominated for her turn as a confused young woman dealing with love and loss in Dear Zindagi too but her gritty performance in Udta Punjab was the one which won her the trophy.
The award ceremony is taking place in New York this year. The first-ever International Indian Film Academy Awards were held in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London and since then the glitzy ceremony has traversed 12 countries.
This is the second IIFA outing in the US. The 2014 edition of the event, touted as the Oscars of Bollywood, was held in Tampa Bay, Florida.
