You managed Madhuri Dixit’s business for 30 years. Could you rewind?
Yes. She was a young girl when we met and decided to work together. She was extremely new to the industry but she seemed very confident. We had a great time working together. She and I shared a great rapport. She trusted my judgement and seldom questioned it. And then, we parted ways amicably. She hasnt cared to keep in touch with me but I can only wish her well.
A few months ago, she was in the eye of the storm. Someone had been making crank calls to her...
Till the time that I managed her work, she didnt face any such issues. She was available to the media, and when I provided the access she never doubted my intentions (pauses).
Go on...
I remember once we were shooting somewhere in the interiors of Maharashtra. A certain fan used to turn up on the sets everyday and sat looking at her through the day. A few days later, she complained to me and I went to the cops.
Then?
They explained to me that the man could not be booked under any offence because he was not committing one. I asked the man what he wanted. He said he wanted an autograph and a photo clicked with her. I got it done the same evening and he never returned. She had thousands of such fan moments but no one could ever harass her when I was around. Shes chosen to move away from me and now I cant comment on how something of that sort could have happened to her.
After parting ways with you, have you ever thought why she hasnt kept in touch with you?
She has changed her phone number and not given her new number to me. I don't know who guides her now (Buzz was, Madhuri's husband Dr Sriram Nene was not in favour of Rikku. she is now managed by a PR agency).
Madhuri is back in business but still not doing too much work. Would you like to join hands with her again?
Not unless she asks me to, which I dont think will happen now. Frankly I dont mind working with her again but I dont know how that will work out between us. Every star goes through highs and lows. She will bounce back but she should be offered the right scripts.
