After making a name for herself in the South industry across three languages, actress Pranitha Subhash is all set to enter Hindi films, with not just one but two films awaiting release—Bhuj: The Pride Of India with Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha, and Priyadarshan’s Hungama 2, a sequel to the director’s 2003 comedy by the same name.
In Hungama 2, Pranitha is paired opposite Meezaan, who made his debut in 2019 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Malaal. Heaping praise for her co-star, Pranitha says that Meezaan is amazing. “He is very talented and comes from the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s school of work and his family is full of people who created Boogie Woogie and are amazing at dancing. So, he is naturally good at acting and dancing and at times he would give me some important tips on how to go about things. He is really chilled out and a lot of fun,” she smiles. So, since Meezaan is so good at dancing, considering it’s probably in his genes with Jaaved Jaferi being his dad, did Pranitha ever take on some help from him for dancing during the film? “Yes. I still remember when we were shooting for the promotional song, he would call my makeup artist and instruct him to tell me how to do steps,” she shares. Pranitha goes on to recall how nervous she was on that day. “I was actually a bit tense because I had Shilpa Shetty at one hand who was a pro, and on the other hand it was Meezaan who is really good at dancing. There was Ganesh Acharya sir who is like really amazing. Then there was me in midst of all these people, who had done a lot of films, but wasn’t a dancer,” she says sheepishly.
And all that nervousness kind of even got to her at some point. “There was so much pressure and everyone was clapping for Shilpa ma’am and Meezaan, that I got tensed up and started going one beat faster,” she reminisces, adding how Meezaan came to her rescue. “He called my makeup artist and told him that he understood that I was getting tense because everyone is like a pro there. So, he told him to tell me to go slow as he had seen me in the rehearsals and I did a great job there. That was very reassuring and that’s how co-stars should be, helping each other out to do a good job. The song ultimately looks great,” she gushes.
Pranitha also found a South connect with her amazing co-star. “Meezaan is obsessed with South Indian films and I tell him that he should debut in the South now,” she signs off with a laugh.
