Ever since the passing away of Sushant Singh Rajput, the nepotism debate and a general talk about the industry has come forth and people seem to be coming out with their sides of the story. One such person has been renowned journalist Shekhar Gupta, who wrote an article about his first-hand experience when he was involved with the Indian Express. He was the editor in chief of the Indian Express that owned Screen Awards, a highly popular award show. In his article, he alleged Hrithik Roshan of not accepting an award for Krrish at first, as his father Rakesh Roshan, who was the film’s director, wasn’t given an award.

The veteran journalist talks about a few instances of actors or directors boycotting the whole event if they or someone of their choice weren’t being presented an award. In his piece, he wrote about an incident from back in 2007, where Hrithik Roshan was chosen best actor male for his role in Krrish, and he was also supposed to perform on stage. While it was all set, Hrithik sent word one hour before the award show, that while he would perform, he will not accept the award. “Why? Because how could he give legitimacy “to a jury that did not recognise the phenomenal talent of his father”? Rakesh Roshan was the film’s director,” reads the article written by Shekhar Gupta.

He further mentions that while Hrithik did eventually relent and accepted the award, he boycotted the post-awards star party.

Meanwhile, the veteran Journalist also recalled his experience with other Bollywood stars such as Karan Johar, Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan, Zoya Akhtar.  Taapsee Pannu replied to Shekhar Gupta’s tweet and mentioned how she would have wanted to know post-2013 stories and could have related to them directly.
