Hema Malini and Dharmendra are undoubtedly one of the most iconic couples in the industry and their love story defies all conventions. But, did you know, Hema’s parents initially disapproved of her relationship with the ‘He-Man of Bollywood’? Well, one of the reasons is, he was already married to Prakash Kaur at the time!
“Nobody wants to be like that, it happens. Automatically, what happens, you have to accept. Otherwise, nobody will feel like they want to live their life like this. No! Every woman wants to have a husband, children, like a normal family. But somewhere, it went out of the way," the actress-turned-politician said.
She also added that she does not feel bad about the same and she is happy with the fact that she has two children.
“I am not feeling bad about it, or sulking about it. I am happy with myself. I have my two children, and I have brought them up very well. Of course, he (Dharmendra) was there, always. Everywhere. Actually, he was the one worried, ‘Shaadi hona chaiye bachchon ka jaldi’ (The kids should get married early). I said ‘Hoga’ (It’ll happen). When the time is right, the right person will come around. With the blessings of god and guru ma, everything happened," she concluded.
Her autobiography, Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl, elaborated on the same and it was revealed that the actress’ mother Jaya Chakravathy had tried to convenience her to marry Jeetendra.
However, despite living separately, their love for each other is boundless.
His note read: "Esha, Ahana, Hema and all my darling kids loving Takhtani’s and Vohra’s l love you and respect you all from the core of my heart. Age illness is telling upon me I could have spoken personally to you..but (sic)."
