Chitrangada Singh’s closeness with Salman Khan is well-known. The actress has often been spotted horse-riding and swimming in his Panvel farmhouse. Not to mention, his paintings proudly adorn the walls of the actress’ bedroom (

Probably that’s why we didn’t expect the sultry actress to do anything that might jeopardise her friendship with the Sultan star. But this news had us doing a double take.

The story goes that the Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi actress was approached by Samir Ingle (financer of Tanu Weds Manu) for his debut production Kalpanik. The film's writer Amit Khan met Ms Singh with the offer, which will be helmed by debutante Rajesh Nair.

We hear, Chitrangada was extremely excited about the film and gave her nod to it- but with a suggestion that Randeep Hooda should be roped in as the male lead because he is a terrific actor.

Amit was a tad surprised by the actress' putting forth her choice, but promised to get back.

Cut to a few weeks later – the writer contacted Chitrangada to tell her jubilantly that everything had been put in place, including the lead actor – Arbaaz Khan.

Erm...Arbaaz as her film’s hero didn’t quite sit well with Ms Singh’s plans. While she did not express her displeasure to the writer or the producer-director duo then, she virtually disappeared on them.

When contacted, Ingle said that he was not aware of the details since Amit had met Chitrangada. "I am really not interested what happens behind the scenes. What matters to me is the end result,. Yes, Arbaaz is doing my film and Chitrangada is not doing it. But I think she had a problem with her dates, they weren't matching Arbaaz's dates."

What dates, Mr Ingle! Hasn't Ms Singh been yearning to do a film since the longest time?

We then spoke to Amit, who said, "I don't think that Arbaaz is the reason. Yes, Chitrangada said 'No' to Kalpanik. It's possible that she didn't like the project."

Our source, close to the film, maintained: "Chitrangada's enthusiasm waned only after Arbaaz came on board."

Interestingly, the Inkaar actress even has been taking career advice from the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star for sometime. Now, we wonder how her mentor will react to her snubbing a project starring his younger brother in the lead.

It may be recalled that Salman didn’t forgive Priyanka Chopra for the longest time after she rejected his youngest brother Sohail Khan’s production Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. How will Chitrangada deal with this situation (of her making)?
