Govinda and David did almost 17 films together, and they proved to be huge commercial successes together. In the ‘90s, the versatile actor gave many popular actors a run for his money, popularity and the number of films he was doing. However soon after they became a rage, they had an ugly fall out. And then in an interview, Govinda bared it all.

Today marks Govinda’s 57th birthday and on the occasion of his birthday, let us take you back to the time when he had opened up about his sour relationship with Sr. Dhawan. For the unversed, David Dhawan had reportedly blamed Govinda for not living up to his once camaraderie with David. In a previous interview, when Govinda had opened up about his fall out with David he had said that he doesn’t think filmmaker’s son Varun Dhawan will do 17 films with him.

In an interview with India TV, Govinda had said, “He can ask me this question only when his son (Varun Dhawan) makes 17 films with him. I do not think his son will ever do 17 films with him, because he is, after all, David Dhawan's son.” However later, fuel was added to the fire when Govinda revealed that he had allegedly heard David Dhawan talking about him to his secretary. Govinda had further stated, “I heard David saying, 'Chi-Chi (Govinda's nickname) is questioning a lot.' He was telling my secretary, 'I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles.' This shocked me and I decided never to work with him.”


Govinda and David Dhawan have worked together in Swarg (1990), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Hero No. 1 (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999) amid 17 others films.
