festival weekend. From Eid to Christmas and from Independence Day to Republic
Day, all holiday releases have an edge over others, in terms of the sheer
footfall and audience reception they enjoy.
This Friday, as the whole nation celebrates Vinayak
Chaturthi, the box-office ticket windows will be abuzz with business, as there
are 6 films hitting the screens. Here’s the lowdown:
Manmarziyaan
A joint production between Colour Yellow Production, Eros
International and Phantom Films, Manmarziyaan has been produced by Aanand L Rai
and Anurag Kashyap. Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky
Kaushal, the film has been directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film's music which
is being praised a lot has been composed by Amit Trivedi. Manmarziyaan is said
to be a different take on the age old love triangle concept. Taapsee has two
suitors for her love. While one (Vicky Kaushal) is the loverboy rockstar who is
still figuring out what to do with his life, the other (Abhishek Bachchan) is
the stable guy who has it all figured out. Who will finally win the girl’s
heart? You will have to watch the movie to find out.
Love Sonia
Starring Adil Hussain, Mrunal Thakur, Richa Chadda, Manoj
Bajpayee, Sai Tamhankar, Freida Pinto, Rajkummar Rao and Anupam Kher, Love
Sonia has been directed by Tabrez Noorani and produced by David Womark. The
film has been praised a lot at international film festivals. It has music by
Niels Bye Nielsen. The plot of Love Sonia narrates the heartfelt and brave
story of Sonia, played by Mrunal Thakur, a young Indian village girl whose life
irrevocably changes when she is entrapped into the vicious global sex trade network.
Mitron
Produced by Vikram Malhotra under the banner of
Abundantia Entertainment, Mitron has been directed by Nitin Kakkar. Starring
Jackky Bhagnani, Kritika Kamra and Pratik Gandhi the film has music by Yo Yo
Honey Singh, Tanishk Bagchi, Vaayu and Sameer Uddin. The plot of the film
revolves around Jai, played by Jackky Bhagnani, born and brought up with
middle-class values, but has a ‘take it easy’ approach to life. Since he
doesn't believe in the herd mentality, he and his two best friends start
looking for unique ways to make it big in the world. During this trial and
error phase, Jai realises his dream. But his decision of choosing an
unprofitable career path doesn’t go down too well with his father, who has
bigger aspirations for him. Therefore, in order to bring stability in his life,
his father decides to get him married. Destiny, however, has something else in
store for Jai, when he accidentally meets Avni, played by Kritika Kamra, an
ambitious, MBA graduate, who wants to start her own business. Set in the
backdrop of the Gujarati milieu, the film traces Jai and Avni’s personal
journey, as they both find themselves and discover the true meaning of
friendship in the bargain.
Hotel Milan
Starring Kunaal Roy Kapur, Zeeshan Quadri, Jaideep
Ahlawat and Karishma Sharma, Hotel Milan is one film which has been talked
about a lot on social media. Produced by Haresh Patel under the banner of HG
Pictures, the film has been directed by Vishal Mishra. The plot of the film
revolves around Vipul, played by Kunaal Roy Kapur, his girlfriend, Shaheen,
played by Karishma Sharma and his friend, Saurabh, played by Zeishan Quadri,
who decide to start a hotel that charges its guests on an hourly basis. The hotel
attracts many lovers, who are looking for a place to spend time with each
other. However, Goldie Kaushik, played by Jaideep Ahlawat of the Bharat Nirmaan
Party’s Youth Wing and the Anti-Romeo Squad hate the existence of Hotel Milan.
Kathor
Starring Lalit Parimoo, Sheetal Dimri, Abhisek Pandey,
Durga Sarkar and Akhilesh Pandey, Kathor is produced by Ravi Shukla under the
banner of Shri Balaji Global Films. Directed by Karan Kashyap, the film has
music by Vishnu Vikram. The film revolves around Neelkanth Chaturvedi, 55 years
old man. He is about to retire in 2 years from the post of constable from
Bilaspur central jail. He has a small family, wife Jyoti and daughter Anu.
Neelkanth, who is soft hearted, is the caretaker of the most dangerous
prisoners of that jail. During a Naxalite attack, his daughter is killed just a
few days before her marriage. Neelkanth is shattered but, after a lot of
counselling, joins back his duty in the jail. His turmoil begins when he, not
only comes across Padam, the Naxalite who killed his daughter, but he has to
feed him too everyday.
Falsafa
Starring Manit Joura, Geetanjli Singh, Ridhima Grover and
Sumit Gulati Falsafa has been produced by VK Yadav under the banner of Pen N
Camera International and VK Motion Pictures. Directed by Himanshu Yadav and
music Sagar Bhatia, this film has had minimal promotions but has some good
word-of-mouth among the audiences. Falsafa is a revenge drama where the plot
revolves around one situation that plays so hard with human brain that he/she
goes as far as killing another human.
