Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus has been cleared by the censors and was going to see the light of the day on January 25. It clashes with Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man. Now owing to Padmaavat being banned in 4 states - Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan - the makers are leaving no stone unturned to get the first move at the box-office.
As per a report in mid-day, the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor starrer will have paid previews across theatres in India (barring the states that have banned it) on the night of January 24.
Manoj Desai, owner of a multiplex in Mumbai told a leading daily, ‘’While Pad Man releases on January 25, Padmaavat will release the night before. The distributors of Padmaavat are likely to release reimburse the film that is scheduled for the 9.30 pm show that day and screen the magnum opus instead. There will be only one paid preview. This will happen not just in my theatre but across India.”
Also there are reports that the lead actors will not promote the film to avoid unnecessary controversy. A source said, ''The makers want to keep promotional work minimal to avoid controversy. Also, the cast members are busy with other commitments.''
Box-office is all about numbers, and Padmaavat has made the first move in the right direction. Will Pad Man follow suit?
