An FIR has been registered against the makers of Malayalam movie Oru Adaar Love over the lyrics of one of the film’s songs - Manikya Malaraya Poovi.

Here's the translation of the lyrics:

"A Woman Like The Pearl Flower

Her Highness Khadeeja Beevi

In The Holy City Of Mecca

She Lived Like A Queen A Woman

Like The Pearl Flower

Her Highness Khadeeja Beevi

In The Holy City Of Mecca

She Lived Like A Queen (Indo Music)

Asked Khathim An Nabiyyin (Prophet Mohammed)

Sent As In Charge Of Her Trade Expedition,

At The First Sight Of Him

She Desired Him

After Completing The Expedition

Blessed Rasoolullah Came Back

To Marry The Prophet

Was The Beevi Desire

A Woman Like The Pearl Flower

Her Highness Khadeeja Beevi

In The Holy City Of Mecca

She Lived Like A Queen"

“After listening to the song, I went for the translation of the lyrics,” Muqeeth Khan said. “The translation is about our Prophet.”

However, the director of the film, Omar Lulu, who is a Muslim himself, has defended the lyrics of the song.

The director told a leading portal, “Manikya Malaraya Poovi means “a pearl flower that is very precious”. He added that the song is about the love story of the Prophet Mohammad and his first wife.

“People around the country, or rather around the world, are loving it. But there has been some opposition from some old Muslims in the community. They feel that a love song that is about the Prophet Muhammad and his wife in a film is insulting to Islam. But these people are in a small minority.”

While reports online say that the FIR has already been registered, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Falaknuma) Syed Faiyaz told ANI that a First Information Report had not been registered as the complainants were yet to submit video proof.

However, he later told PTI that the police had taken legal opinion and registered a case against Lulu for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The police would consult some Islamic clerics about the translation of the song. He added. “We will proceed based on their opinion. If the song has really hurt sentiments, then definitely action will be initiated against those involved.”
