Legal troubles are pouring in for filmmaker Avinash Das over his latest social media post. As per media reports, Avinash on Tuesday was detained from Mumbai by Gujarat police for sharing a picture of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with jailed IAS officer Pooja Singhal. The director was brought to Ahmedabad by the City Crime Branch’s team for the further legal process. Avinash reportedly also posted another photo of a woman wearing the national flag on his Instagram and Facebook handles.

Assistant Commissioner of Police D P Chudasama told PTI, “We detained Das from Mumbai on Tuesday. He is being brought to Ahmedabad by our team for further legal process.” The FIR against Avinash Das has been filed under Section 469 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Information. The 46-year-old filmmaker was booked in June for sharing this controversial viral photo wherein Pooja Singhal was seen whispering something to Amit Shah. The click is reportedly said to be taken days before Singhal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.

Reportedly, the crime branch has claimed that the picture was shared with an intention to tarnish Amit Shah’s image. Avinash Das has also been accused of insulting national honour for sharing the photo of the woman wearing tricolour. Avinash Das will be produced before the Ahmedabad Metro Court tomorrow. The Anaarkali of Aarah filmmaker was denied anticipatory bail by the sessions court and thus he filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court, which was also dismissed.

He is widely known for helming movies like Swara Bhasker starrer ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’ and the Netflix series ‘She.’
