Filmfare Awards 2020 was held in Guwahati, Assam on February 15, 2020. With the award show being graced by an amazing fleet of stars, the evening also saw some eccentric performances winning the hearts of the audiences. Amidst of all this, lyricist Manoj Muntashir was left completely disappointed. The well-known lyricist was taken aback when the show organizer announced names of Divine and Ankur Tewari for the best lyricist category for Apna Time Aayega from Zoya Akhtar’s movie Gully Boy.
Manoj Muntashir was also nominated in this category for his song, Teri Mitti from Akshay Kumar’s movie Kesari. Hence, taking to his Instagram account, he expressed his true feelings of being taken aback with this move of the organizers and hence he bid his final goodbye particularly to the Filmfare team. Further in his post, he also mentioned about not attending any award shows, till he breathes his last. According to Manoj, lyrics of his song which the award organizer failed to recognize, had got tears in the eyes of millions of Indians.
His post read, "Dear Awards...Even if I try all my life.. I won't be able to write a better song than #TeriMitti, a better line than.. 'Tu Kahti Thee Tera Chaand Hoon Main Aur Chaand Humesha Rahta hai'. You failed to honor the words which made millions of Indians cry and care for their motherland. It would be a great disrespect to my art if I still continue caring for you. So here I bid you a final good bye. I officially announce- I won't attend any award show till I breathe my last. Alvida."
Ranveer Singh bagged the best actor award for his performance in Gully Boy.
