Yesterday, Maanvi Gagroo slammed a fashion label for- fat-shaming her and using her picture without her permission. It so happened, when Maanvi had come across a picture of her wearing a dhoti-kurti dress on micro-blogging website and she shared the screengrab of some on her Twitter account. The tagline used by the fashion label on her picture read, “Styles to hide your curves.” The tagline not only left Maavi fuming but also blasting them for using the unauthorized picture. Now the fashion label in question has issued an apology.
In the sorry note, the company says that their brand misrepresented not the celebrity but also their personal stand on issues of body shaming & body positivity. Towards the end of their post, the brand mentioned that the ad has been duly withdrawn. Tagging Maanvi, the brand issued the apology and wrote, “We're deeply apologetic that our brand misrepresented not only your celebrity but also our personal stand on issues of body shaming & body positivity. We are completely against any kind of shaming, on social media or otherwise.”
“Our aim has always been to bring out the beauty of our customers and bring a smile to their face. This has been an oversight at our level and for that we are sorry. The said advert has been duly withdrawn,” read their statement further.
Blasting the site for fat-shaming and using her picture, Maanvi had called it distasteful tagline. She Tweeted, “I didn't wear this dress to 'hide my curves'. Not only does the brand NOT have my permission to use my picture as a sponsored post, they definitely don't have my permission to fat shame ANYONE! I stand against everything this distasteful tagline points to.”
