(Madhur asked me to act like Kareena and Kangana in my audition, July 28)?
Who's this IPL girl? That's all we could think about. After a bit of snooping, we've got all the details.
Satarupa is playing the character of Simran Sood in the drama. Yes, the same Simran who was involved in the twin murders of Karan Kakkad and Arun Tikku, along with her accomplice Vijay Palande (who was later discovered to be her husband).
Here's a quick refresher. Simran was an aspiring actress who acted in B-grade films like Anokha Anubhav and Smile Please. While her Bollywood career never took off, she would always frequent Page 3 parties and hobnob with celebrities in the hope of landing films.
She came into spotlight in 2012 when she and Palande were arrested for the murder of Kakkad. According to Palande's confession, the duo killed him and chopped his body into pieces before disposing it off.
Turns out, over the years, Palande trapped wealthy men, using Simran as the honey trap and often took illegal possession of their properties and even murdered them - until they were nabbed in 2012.
Further investigations revealed that Simran also had close ties with IPL bookies and played a pivotal role in match-fixing. She was often spotted at various IPL after-parties especially with Andy Bichel, who was the bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders during 2009 and fast bowler Doug Bollinger.
Whoa! All this sure makes for a spicy plot!
And sure enough, Madhur is all set to bring these murky real-life episodes on the big screen. The director has roped in a newcomer to essay the role of Palande. We hear, Madhur was extremely excited about these two characters right from the scripting stage and didn't shy away from including any of the controversial bits.
Calendar Girls is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 25.
