Just in! The Election Commission has directed the cops to take strict action against Union Minister and BJP candidate Babul Supriyo in Asansol, Bengal for interfering in the poll process. This morning, we saw a huge violence breaking outside the booth. Apparently, EC has looked into the matter swiftly and realised that Babul argued very animatedly with the polling officer and asked why a BJP polling agent was not present at that centre. Finding such behaviour unacceptable, EC has taken the FIR decision.

This incident happens a day after Supriyo’s car was vandalised outside a polling station in Barabani in Asansol during the fourth phase of polling in Lok Sabha election. Reportedly, he questioned a lady police officer and tried chasing her away. When the man was questioned for his actions, he stated that the cops had become “spineless” and was “assisting TMC goons.” Apparently, the BJP candidate was cahsed away by a few TMC workers who were present at the spot. They even raised slogans ‘Chowkidar chor hain’ and threw bottles at Supriyo’s vehicle.

The crowd was dispersed by the cops later and they even confronted a few CPM workers who arrived at the spot armed with bamboo sticks. After clashes erupted between BJP workers and workers of the state ruling party TMC in Asansol, Supriyo’s car was vandalised. The rear windshield of his car was attacked outside polling booth number 199. He had told reporters, “I will take central forces with me. People are saying give us central forces, let us vote.”

In a series of tweets, Supriyo wrote, "Live Update of #MamtaBanerjee’s #TMchhi ‘s Violence & brutal intimidation:
