Actress Kangana Ranaut is set to make history as she becomes the first woman to take on the role of performing Ravan Dahan during the Dussehra celebration at Lav Kush Ramleela in Delhi. This significant event, traditionally hosted at the Red Fort for the past 50 years, will witness a woman igniting the effigy of the demon king with a well-aimed arrow. Arjun Singh, the president of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee of Delhi, confirmed this groundbreaking moment. On Monday, Kangana took to her Instagram handle to share a video where she discussed the upcoming event and her upcoming film, Tejas. In the post's caption, she emphasized the historic nature of the event, stating, "This marks a significant moment in the 50-year history of the Red Fort's annual celebration as a woman takes the lead in igniting the effigy of Ravana. Arjun Singh explained that the committee's decision was influenced by the Women's Reservation Bill, recently passed by Parliament in September. He mentioned, "Regardless of whether they're film stars or politicians, we've had VIPs at our event each year. We've been graced by former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as film stars like Ajay Devgn and John Abraham. Prabhas led the Ravan Dahan last year. This year, in our 50-year history, a woman will set fire to the effigy of Ravana for the first time."
Kangana is currently promoting her film Tejas, scheduled to be released on Friday. The movie, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, features her in the role of an Indian Air Force pilot. A female celebrity doing Ravan Dahan for the first time ever is being lauded by the netizens and it will be interesting to see the Queen star take the bow and arrow and in hands to conclude the tradition.
