Diwali is one time of the year when filmmakers look forward to release their films. It's festival time and a good footfall is more or less assured.

This year Thugs Of Hindostan is hitting theatres on Diwali and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Considering two superstars come together in the venture, it has got a solo release.

Today on the auspicious occasion of Diwali 2018, let's go down memory lane and have a look at some of the popular movies in this decade which released during Diwali.

Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim starrer Secret Superstar opened to great reviews, and did fairly well at the box-office. At the same time, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again proved to be a box-office hit. The film was a rare attempt at the horror-comedy genre and hit bull’s eye.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, Fawad Khan and Shah Rukh Khan was an emotional love saga. It turned out to be a blockbuster but had to cross a massive hurdle to hit theatres. In the wake of the Uri attack in 2016, Pakistani actors were asked to leave the country and many multiplexes received threats to not screen the film as it starred Fawad.

This was another comeback of a popular actor-director jodi. Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan coming back together was enough to get audiences queue outside theatres. SRK and Farah were going through a difficult time in their friendship ever since SRK got into a public fight with her husband Shirish Kunder. However, the duo sorted their differences out over time and they came back together to give this dhamakedaar Diwali release. 

Krrish 3 (2013)

Hrithik Roshan gave Indian audiences our very own superhero -- Krrish. The film had released back in 2006, and people were waiting for a sequel ever since. Finally, Rakesh Roshan gave audiences Krrish 3 in 2013. People flocked to theatres to see Krrish once again and goes without saying, the film had makers dancing in the aisles.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan And Son Of Sardaar (2012)

This was one of the rare occasions where two big-budgeted films clashed at the box-office. People paid tribute to Yash Chopra by thronging to theatres for watching his last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. He passed away during the last leg of promotions. At the same time audiences even enjoyed Ajay Devgn-Sanjay Dutt's slapstick comedy. Both films performed fairly well.

RA.One (2011)

RA.One was one of the most eagerly awaited films in 2011, for, fans wanted to see Shah Rukh Khan turn superhero. Even though critics panned the film, audiences thronged theatres in huge numbers to see their favourite star plays the part.
