After targetting many celebs, fashion critic Diet Sabya has once again called out Bollywood actresses Lisa Haydon and Mrunal Thakur. Lisa Haydon, who recently walked the Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week, turned showstopper for Amit Aggarwal wearing a dark purple drape dress; while on the other hand, Mrunal Thakur had worn the similar-looking dress by Rimzim Dadu in June 2018. Looking at both the pictures, one might get déjà vu
Sharing a collage of both pictures, Diet Sabya wrote, “We’ve received hundreds of messages to call this one out, and, honestly as much as one would want to, we don’t know this one is as black and white as it seems. Both @amitaggarwalofficial and @rimzimdaduofficial work with unusual materials (polymers, steel etc) and create structural silhouettes as part of their brand offering. But, having said that, one can’t ignore the fact that this Amit Aggarwal structured sari is too-close-for-comfort to @rimzimdaduofficial now-iconic silhouette. DISCUSS!! #lakmefashionweek #dietsabya #debate #dejavu”
Talking about the designs, a user wrote, “It is similar, but isn't it what any classic sari would look like if made with a structurally stiff fabric? I think both the designers have presented their take on a classic.” While another said, “To everyone commenting it’s “inspired” and not “copied” - please understand the nuances. Rimzim was the pioneer in structured metallic saris. It’s not just a sari and no, not all saris in eccentric materials will just look the same. Even if you decide to turn a blind eye to the structure, shape, width, curve and other technical details - It’s an aesthetic around saris that Rimzim Dadu has built and Amit Agarwal is just riding on. When a ‘leading’ designer presents a show at a prominent fashion week, one expects freshness and originality.”
Wonder what the respective designers have to say now?
