Bollywood actors often go under rigorous training to get into the soul of their characters, which often includes reducing or gaining weight and changing their appearance with the help of prosthetics if the script demands it. Kartik Aaryan is the most recent actor to undergo rigorous training for his role in Freddy.
The actor, who genetically has a lean body, according to trainer Samir Jaura, had to gain 14 kg for his upcoming movie. Apparently, putting on weight requires a supervised process, as it is not as simple as "shredding of muscles or getting ripped." He said, "When I saw that I would also be required to gain weight for the role, among other preparations, I just wasn’t able to worry in that moment because I was so excited to play this character. And it was quite difficult, trying to put on so much weight altogether. But, under Samir’s training, we achieved the goal in time and gladly, the entire team loved the final look." ALSO READ: WHAT! While his efforts are commendable, let’s take a look at some of the other celebrities who put on weight for their characters.
Salman Khan: Salman Khan had to say goodbye to his six-pack abs, as he had to sport a bloated tummy for his movie Sultan. He had gained 90–100 kg to look authentic in his role as a failed wrestler. If reports are to be believed, Bhaijaan started eating three Magnum ice creams in a day.
Aamir Khan: Known to be a perfectionist, the actor had portrayed a Haryanvi wrestler in Dangal. He had to go through a tough training regimen to seem like a wrestler for the first part of the movie and a retired father who trains his daughters for the rest of the movie. Reports state that he had to gain 68 to 95 kg for the role of the older Mahavir Singh Phogat.
Kriti Sanon: The actress had to put on 15 kg to play the role of Mimi, a girl who becomes a surrogate mother for a couple so that she can pursue her dreams of becoming an actress. The actress wanted to look pregnant in real life instead of just using prosthetics for her pregnant belly.
Vidya Balan: One of the most versatile actresses in Bollywood, Vidya Balan, had gained weight for her role in The Dirty Picture. She reportedly gained 12 kg to look like late actress Silk Smitha. The movie became a path-breaking opportunity for the actress, who flourished in more female-centric movies.
Hrithik Roshan: The actor for the role of Super 30 had given up on his six-pack to essay the role of Anand Kumar, a middle-class maths teacher. His transformation and his dedication to his art were applauded by fans.
Nimrat Kaur: Nimrat took essaying the role of a minister’s wife to a whole other level when she consumed samosas to gain 15 kg for her role in Dasvi. Her character, Bimla Devi, was so much different than the roles she plays on screen.
Coming back to Kartik, the actor is all set to entertain the audience with a spine-chilling thriller, Freddy. Alaya F, of Jawaani Jaaneman fame, also plays the lead role in the film.
