The headlines she generated in the past few days had
little to do with Simran and a lot to do with her own complicated romantic
past. Did Kangana Ranaut do a disservice of sorts to T-Series, who reportedly
put Rs 35 crore in the film? Would it not have been prudent to talk about the
film in her publicity campaigns rather than 'only' brood about her broken
relationships and accuse her ex-flames on various counts?
Or did the Hrithik Roshan-Adhyayan Suman-Hrithik
Roshan juicy talk really pay dividends since it made people realise that
Simran was round the corner? But then, why only Rs 12.06 crore over four days?
Kangana Ranaut And Hrithik Roshan In Krrish 3
Yes, that's barely the collection of the first 3 days of
Simran.
So, this would be a never-ending debate---- but the point
to be made here is that the film also let Kangana down. Most film critics
didn't find anything worth praising except Kangana's performance. In fact,
Kangana's ex Aditya Pancholi who has been at a big war with her recently even
could not help appreciating her histrionics.
Hence, let's find out from distributors and exhibitors
what they feel about this hypothesis. Was Kangana right in shifting her focus
on her past affairs or not?
Did her marketing strategy on the film (if one may
call that) work?
Exhibitor Akshay Rathi says, "I strongly feel that
Kangana did a big disservice to the producers of Simran. She went out to
promote the film and spoke everything but the film. What sense does that make
in today's times when people come to the theatres to watch content and you
don't send out messages about your content?"

However Amod Mehra points out that, irrespective of her
loud and brazen quotes on Hrithik-Adhyayan-Suman, Simran has already been sold
to Amazon and T-series has recovered 75 per cent of their inventory.
"On the contrary, I think that Kangana's methods to
publicise the film by talking about her personal life helped the film. There is
a big section in the audiences which compromises of ladies. They loved whatever
she spoke in the media prior to the film and they are going out in groups to
see the product now. And I know for a fact that most women who have seenSimrant
have showered only praises on it."
But Rathi disagrees with Mehra. He says, "Look, I
don't think Amazon has given T-Series 75 per cent of their inventory. While a
good amount may have come in, it is yet to be ascertained where Simran ends up
in terms of life time earnings, At the moment, it doesn't look a big hit for
sure. At best, Rs 20 crore in totality. Does that speak really very high about
a film whose making including P & A is almost double of that?"

Ravi of PVR Juhu opines, "Why only Simran? We are
not doing well with Lucknow Central either, this week. Frankly, we had no hope
from these two films, so we are not taken aback or disappointed. As for
the exact numbers of Simran at my end, I registered 22 per cent occupancy over
the weekend- and that is certainly not great."
"If you are also going to ask me whether Kangana's
personal life publicity misfired, I would again say that it hardly mattered to
us. We were never looking at Simran as a revenue model," Ravi adds.
