If you've seen Nikhil Advani's Katti Batti and didn't like its melodramatic climax, you've got Aamir Khan to blame.

The original draft had a different ending - one that didn't quite appeal to our Mr. Perfectionist. So what did he do? He asked Nikhil and the film's writer, Anshul Singhal, to rework the climax.

Admitting the same, Nikhil said in an interview: "The last 22 minutes of Katti Batti are completely Aamir's. I have no hesitation in acknowledging his contribution in any way he wants." (Wonder what he has to say about Aamir's 'contribution' now.)

Anyway, we at SpotboyE got our hands on the original ending. Read it and decide for yourself if Aamir indeed took the right call.

The Current Ending
Maddy's (Imran Khan) sister in the film, Koyal tells him at the airport that Payal (Kangana Ranaut) is dying of a terminal illness and that dumping him unceremoniously was a ploy to make him hate her.

On learning this, Maddy rushes to Payal (who is conveniently at the same airport) as she is departing for London. He persuades her to stay back and nurses her till her last breath, reading her novels (if you count 50 Shades Of Grey as one), among sundry other things. She eventually passes away in his arms. Of course, not before that mandatory dialogue where she makes him promise that he'll fall in love again. He refuses. She dies. Or he thinks she does. He readily agrees. She springs back to life for a minute before actually dying.

Sappy beyond a big box of tissues.

The Original, 'Pre-Mamu' Ending
Maddy's sister reveals to him that Payal is suffering from cancer. But Kangana has already left the country before he can do anything about it.

So Maddy, Devika (his current girlfriend) and his family gather around a computer at a cyber cafe. Maddy has a Skype conversation with her, who looks like she is in a hospital.

Both pretend as if Maddy doesn't know of her illness.

They abuse the hell out of each other with Maddy even saying that his current girlfriend is better endowed than her. She says he wasn't even good in bed. Their language is colourful but the hatred, fake and rehearsed.

At one point, both are about to break down as they know the truth. Just as the connection is about to break, they extend their hands as if to touch each other's faces on the screen.

When the cyber guy tries to fix it, Maddy says there is no need for another call. He walks towards the counter and pays 20 rupees with the same note Payal had given him during their first meeting - something he had preserved. He holds Devika's hands and walks away.

Do you think this was a much better and 'un-melodramatic' ending? Should Nikhil have protested when Aamir interfered?
