‘Dhoom’ director Sanjay Gandhi died at his Mumbai home on Sunday. His daughter Sanjina Gadhvi shared the news with PTI and as per the reports he was 56, and the filmmaker was about to turn 57 three days later. 

Popularly known for directing the the 2004 film Dhoom starring Hrithik Roshan, and its 2006 sequel Dhoom 2.

The filmmaker’s demise has sent shockwaves across the industry, and fans have flooded the internet with condolences. YRF, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu have shared their condolences and remembered him on social media.

Sanjina told PTI, "He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn't unwell, he was perfectly healthy." 

The director is survived by his wife Gina and two daughters, with Sanjina being the elder one.

Abhishek Bachchan who has been a part of all three Dhoom movies, took to Instagram to express his grief and took to Instagram to share his grief on Gadhvi’s death. 

He wrote, “I took this photo of Sanjay whilst we were filming the climax of Dhoom 2 in South Africa. We made 2 films together - Dhoom and Dhoom 2. Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this.”


"I’m shocked beyond belief. You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first ever hit!!! I can never ever forget that or be able express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother," he added.

Bipasha Basu, who was featured in Dhoom 2, shared a picture of Gadhvi on Instagram Stories and wrote, “Rip my friend Om Shanti @sanjaygadhvi4 Gone too soon.”

A picture of Gadhvi was shared on YRF's official X page with the caption: “The magic he created on screen will be cherished forever. May his soul rest in peace. 

For those unaware, Sanjay made his directorial debut with the 2000 film Tere Liye and over the years, he directed quite a few films made under the Yash Raj Films banner. Some of them include Dhoom, Dhoom 2 and the 2002 film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. He also directed Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minissha Lamba-starrer Kidnap in 2008, Arjun Rampal-starrer Ajab Gazabb Love in 2012 and Operation Parindey in 2020, which starred Amit Sadh and Rahul Dev.
