Deepika Padukone who was in Delhi to promote her upcoming film Chhapaak made sure to attend a non-violent protest carried out by the students of JNU. Yesterday, pictures of her meeting the JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh were all over the internet. The violence that took place on Sunday in the JNU campus left many injured and a nationwide protest erupted to bring justice to the innocent students. Many celebrities took to their respective social media handles to condemn the act of masked men who entered JNU with iron rods. However, it was Deepika Padukone who showed courage and became a part of the demonstration. She received a lot of appreciation but some are even bashing her.

On Twitter, #boycottchhapaak has become the top trend. A lot of people who did not like Deepika extending her support to the students injured are demanding that people should ban her upcoming film and not watch it at all. A lot of people are also questioning as to why the name of the man who threw acid on Laxmi Agarwal is changed in the film. While people are talking about boycotting and canceling tickets to watch Deepika's film, a lot are also standing up in her support. Deepika is yet to comment on this.









Chhapaak that makes it to the theatres on January 10, 2019 is directed by Meghna Gulzar. It is based on the real-life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika Padukone will be seen along with Vikrant Massey in this film. The film will clash with Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
