Talking about the film, Chhapaak is based on the real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who went through this horrific accident and through her story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India. The film shows Malti’s struggle and how she fights for justice with the help of her friend Vikrant Massey. Deepika plays Malti in the film, who was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005. Chhapaak is set to hit theatres on 10th January 2020.

SpotboyE.com editor Vickey Lalwani gave 3.5 stars to Chhapaak. Impressed with the actress’ performance, he wrote that Deepika Padukone delivers a very sensitive performance in her most important film till date while Vikrant is fine- neat and sincere. Talking more about the film, he wrote, “The long and short of Chhapaak is that it has several moments which are praiseworthy, but it should have been more engaging. Meghna Gulzar's capable hands and Deepika's brilliant acting talent manage to do so, is another story.”
