With achievements like two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, singer composer A.R. Rahman is touted to be the pride of our country.  Having composed music for films like Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), Rangeela (1995), Taal (1999), Lagaan (2000), Rang De Basanti (2006) and many more, Rahman has definitely given the music industry a series of beautiful melodies.

On the occasion of his 50th birthday, SpotboyE.com spoke to a few renowned artists who have worked with him in the past. Here’s what they have to say about the legendry music composer:

We all know that A.R. Rahman sir has achieved so much in his life. But despite his achievements he is extremely down to earth.  He is so focussed with his work and he exactly knows what he wants from the singers. His hard work has inspired a lot of singers including me and will keep encouraging all the upcoming talent as well. We have worked for numerous projects together including Lagaan, Taal, Dil Se and many others. I am blessed to work with him.

Rahman is a unique human being, who fears none, but God. His journey is an inspiration to all the music lovers and musicians and it only takes an evolved soul to reach where he is today. I wish him a very Happy Birthday and pray that God always keeps him in his protection.

Kavita Krishnamurthy:

I met him for the first time when I recorded the song ‘Kuchi Kuchi Rakhma’ for Bombay (1995). He had called me to Chennai for recording the song. He also told me that I would be dubbing the song Tu Hi Re for the same film. When he made me hear the song, I told him very frankly that the track demands a high vocal range and I might not be able to deliver it. So, he gave a very sweet smile and said, let’s give it a try at least. He knew I would be able to pull it off. I think in the second take itself he said that I have delivered the song the way he wanted.

Since then we have worked on so many projects together and the best part is that he knows which song would suit which singers’ tonal quality. Also, he is extremely down to earth and still keeps on reviving himself despite achieving so much. As an artist too, he will want to hear even the singers’ perspective and will even give you the creative freedom. I wish him all the love and success in life.
