Ever since the trailer of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh was dropped online, it sparked ageism controversy. It all started when a netizen pointed out that they would have loved to see slightly older actresses like Neena Gupta and Shabana Azmi playing these kinda roles. Replying to the user, the Badhaai Ho actress had tweeted, “hamari umar ke roles hume de do.” Later, Rangoli jumped into the controversy and said that Kangana had been offered to play a character in Saand Ki Aankh and they should rather offer it to Neena Gupta.
Now, while speaking to The Quint, when Bhumi was asked about the same she said, “I’ll tell you what, I’m glad that they didn’t because I got to play this character. But I do feel that that’s something that the maker should comment on. Tushar’s been trying to make this film for four years and he finally came to Taapsee and me after four years and that’s when this film happened. So I am sure he’s done the round. I know he’s gone everywhere but again I am not really going to dwell into it. That’s been his journey and he should discuss it.”
Rangoli’s tweet was followed by Taapsee Pannu’s long note, which we had brought to you. Lastly, Neena Gupta had ended the ageism debate on a sweet note. While wishing the team best wishes for Saand Ki Aankh she also said, “apna time aayega.”
