The monologue goes like this, "Biwi se sex maang lein, toh hum bhikaari. Biwi ko sex mana kar dein, toh hum atyachaari aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke uss se sex haasil kar lein na toh balaatkaari bhi hum hain." This dialogue uttered by his character of Chintu Tyagi has enraged several people. So, when we caught up with his ‘Patni’ from the film, Bhumi Pednekar, we asked the actress about this entire controversy. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:
Now, Bhumi who’s known to choose strong characters in her films started off by saying, “Firstly, it’s not Kartik saying those things, it’s his character. Secondly, I don’t think I’m in a position to honestly comment on that right now because there’s too much happening. I need to think about this and then have a more thoughtful reply because I need to come from a place of responsibility. We are listening to whatever people are saying but all I can say is that it is not a sexist film. The idea is not to make fun of something as serious as any kind of gender abuse that women go through. I assure you that it’s not happening in the film.”
We also reminded the actress about director Mudassar Aziz’s comment at the trailer launch wherein he took a jibe at his own marital status. Bhumi applauded his spirit and said that it takes a lot of courage to talk about your personal life. “He has gone through a separation in the past and he was just trying to say that ‘I did not have a successful marriage so I’m just trying to create characters who would do’. You have to understand that he is a writer, director who has always celebrated women in his films,” said Bhumi.
Furthermore, Bhumi defending the theme of the film stated that it’s not a sexist movie in any manner and that she would never associate herself with a film like that.
Meanwhile, her film Bala is slated to release in cinema halls on Nov 7 and we had also interviewed the other two actors from the film, Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam wherein they addressed the theme of premature balding, the controversy around Bhumi’s dark-skinned character and much more.
