Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film's screening was stopped in Roorkee after some protests erupted outside cinema halls. The director ended up filing a case against the district magistrate after the film was banned in Roorkee.
According to an IANS report, the district administration in Uttarakhand's Haridwar on Tuesday decided to stop the screening of Ayushman Khurana's "Article 15" in a cinema house in Roorkee town after protests, officials said. Police officials said the step has been taken following protests by some right-wing organizations which were objecting to certain scenes in the movie. The film was doing well in Roorkee when it was suddenly stopped. "Since protests were held only in Roorkee, we decided to stop the screening of the movie in the town only," a police official said.
After filing a case against the district magistrate for banning the film in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, the filmmaker also plans to file a case against the right-wing organizations in Patna. It was they who initiated the ban on Article 15 and stirred a row surrounding it.
Article 15 has landed in many controversies since the trailer release of the film. Even after the release, the ruckus caused around the film, Article 15 has been appreciated and loved for the same. The film is inspired by true events based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution. The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, playing the character of IPS Officer Ayan Ranjan. Article 15 tells the untold tale of events that are always under the limelight, based on religion and caste discrimination.
