Early on in his career, Avinash Tiwary took on the classic role of Majnu in Imtiaz Ali’s production Laila Majnu. The film was a retelling of the tragic love story of Laila Majnu set in the contemporary times of Kashmir and was directed by Imtiaz’s brother Sajjad Ali. This year, Avinash appeared opposite Parineeti Chopra in Netflix’s The Girl On The Train, the official Hindi remake of the 2016 American film by the same name. Avinash’s character was based on the portrayal of Justin Theroux in the original.

In both these roles, there had been a reference point. They were roles that had been attempted before. Ask Avinash if he felt any pressure of living up to those performances and he denies it. “Very honestly, I did not feel any pressure. When I read a script or a material, I am not skilled enough to be able to have references and try and emulate or imitate the performances. I don’t have the skill set to do it. My only way of performance is to read a script and take my own imagination out of my director’s way of narrating a story. I just need to be a medium to be able to express that vision. It has always been like that and I don’t take any undue pressure on myself,” he asserts.

Avinash insists that he just tries to focus on his part in the making of the movie rather than worry about any undue pressure. “For any project, the producer has decided to make a content, they have found a director and chosen a script. The director has chosen an actor to enact a part, and I don’t take any more pressure than making sure that I fulfil all my duties and responsibilities as an actor for that specific part. Any other conversations about pressure are fictionalised versions by actors, unless you are the one putting in the money. Otherwise, you just want to do a good job, make sure that it reaches the people, they like your work and you move on to the next one,” he concludes.
